Trellidor helps the 'Gogo's of Kwa-Mashu

Last year Trellidor staff donated an amazingly generous number of tins to the Robin Hood Foundation's ‘Bin-a-Tin' campaign. This year 11 Trellidorians, including our M.D. Andrew Thomas, got the chance to see where all those tins go by helping to distribute 1000 food parcels made up of various items.Gogo food drop

The day started at Robin Hood's Pinetown storage facility, where we helped load the parcels into vehicles before heading off to the KwaMashu Christian Community Centre. Waiting for us were 500 Gogo's in very high spirits, singing and dancing. Some of our volunteers handed out the parcels while others helped carry the heavy bags up to the taxis waiting to take the Gogo's home. It was an extremely hot Durban summer's day, but the Gogo's remained cheerful, whether they were frail, in wheelchairs or blind, as in the case of one gentleman that had a wonderful smile on his face all day. The Trellidor team worked as quickly as possible to get everyone out of the sun and on their way home. Said volunteer Mumsey Moodley, "These awesome people were so grateful that many of them kissed my hand when we got to the taxis. They were so appreciative it was quite moving." Lee-Ann Latham agreed, saying "It was a very emotional but uplifting and inspirational day. One of the ladies I helped was 92 with clear memories of World War Two!" Our volunteers all agreed that the day had a profound impact on them and they'd remember this humbling experience for a long time to come.
